Lunch with dl_greenarrow

Chloe was typing away on her desk. She had been doing so much work for the Watchtower that she was barely caught up with Planet work. She had had a deadline the previous day and now she was trying to do as much research for her next article as she could because she knew the second she was out of the Planet, her attention would be focused on something else entirely.

Oliver didn't have to get a guest pass to enter the Daily Planet. The security guards knew who he was and simply smiled and nodded in his direction as he headed inside, looking around the crowded office and spotting Chloe at her desk, busy as he'd expected to find her. He watched her for a long moment, then slowly headed over to her desk and dropped down in the seat in front of it. "They ever let you take a break?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

For once, he didn't make her jump. Chloe was used to having people come by and talk to her, she was, however, surprised to see who it was.

The bright smile that appeared on her face was an instant response to seeing him, "only when I have incredibly VIP visitors." She glanced down at the clock on her computer screen then back at him as she leaned back against her chair, her eyebrows raising high "it is past two, isn't it?"

He raised his eyebrows, as well. "Well, when you didn't meet me outside, I thought I'd have to come in here and kidnap you in order to make you eat lunch," he responded, a tiny smile playing on his lips.

Chloe made a face and nodded softly, "I do tend to lose track of time in here," she clicked a few times on her computer before smirking at him, "but I'm glad you are brave enough to willingly walk into a room filled with curious reporters," she said as she pushed her chair back and got up.

"Probably the riskier thing you've done in a while..." she said before leaning over her desk and towards him, quietly, "and I am including your nightly activities."

"Well after awhile you get used to the soul-sucking media hounds," he teased, nudging her arm gently. "And I don't know, Chloe. Some of my nightly activities are pretty risky." He winked at her and offered her his arm. "Lunch?"

"And here I thought it was just the company," he joked. Then he smiled at her. "Seriously. It's not a problem. The couch is comfy. And it's not like you've been the only one falling asleep on it."

"Oh, I'm blaming you too..." she smiled and shrugged a little at him, "doesn't mean I should keep using the injured man as my pillow, though." Chloe relaxed as they walked.

Oliver rolled his eyes. "The injured man? Is that my new nickname?"

Chloe bit on her lower lip and shrugged as she raised her eyebrows at him, "now that you suggested it..."

"Strawberry it is. And who can say no to bacon?" He watched as ehs shifted positions and then he glanced up as a waitress stopped at their table, looking at him with wide eyes.

"Mr. Queen? Oh, I'm such a big fan."

He smiled faintly. "Thanks."

She stared at him openly, not even glancing in Chloe's direction.

Chloe raised her eyebrows and smirked slowly then cleared her throat, looking up at the waitress, "I think we're ready to order." She had a sweet smile in place on her face, and as amused as she was, she didn't want Oliver to feel uncomfortable.

The waitress glanced at her briefly, then smiled at him, batting her eyelashes. "What can I get for you, Mr. Queen?"

He paused, then looked at Chloe. "I'll have whatever she's having," he responded.

Chloe didn't wait for the waitress to look at her to start ordering, she didn't think it would be a problem to get their order right since the girl would obviously want to impress Oliver.

Once the girl wrote down their order she turned to look at Oliver again and smiled at him as she just stared.

Chloe looked from the girl to him and back, "Hm, that's all we need for now, thank you?" She didn't blame the girl for staring, Oliver was... gorgeous, but she didn't want anyone uncomfortable.

He shrugged a little. "It's a public place. I'm sure people take pictures all the time," he teased, not really thinking about it.

Chloe raised her eyebrows and shrugged a little finally pulling back and leaning against her seat, if he wasn't worried about it, she didn't want to make him worry, "I guess you're right." She smiled softly at him.

He smiled back at her, glancing up when the waitress returned to the table with their milkshakes.

"I put extra whipped cream in yours. I read you like whipped cream." She beamed.

Oliver smiled politely. "That was thoughtful. Thank you." He looked back at Chloe and raised his eyebrows a little.

Before she knew what she was doing, Chloe was rolling her eyes, sure, she couldn't blame the girl, but it didn't mean she was overly impressed with her behavior.

She would have thanked her, but she just looked from Oliver up to the girl with raised eyebrows.

She grinned brightly and nodded at him, "I try to base my opinions on facts, Mr. Queen." Chloe finally took a bite of her burger and sighed, nodding and enjoying the taste for a moment "it's one of their really good days."

He couldn't help but watch the expression on her face as she chewed. A smile tugged at his lips involuntarily and then he took another bite of his own burger. He felt himself relaxing as they sat together in amiable silence, eating. He wondered if this was what it would be like all the time if he'd ever been normal. If it would be casual lunches with good friends, laughter and smiles as they drank milkshakes on break from the long work day.

It was nice. It made him slightly envious of people who didn't know the things that they did--that were oblivious to the dangers out there. Or maybe not oblivious. Perhaps just not as inclined to try and make things better. To change the world.

The silence didn't go unnoticed by her, and it was nice to know that they were both comfortable enough to just sit in silence and eat, so she let it stretch for a while, but she felt like he was lost in though and she was curious.

"Must be important..." she grinned a little, not to be too intrusive.

After the silence, her words caught him off guard. "Sorry?" His eyebrows furrowed.

Chloe shook her head and sighed then held out her hand, "I invited you, I'm buying you lunch."

He met her eyes for a moment, then reluctantly handed over the tickets. "All right." There was a hint of amusement in his eyes.

She grinned brightly at him and took the checks, looking at it before pulling money our of her wallet and setting it on the table before looking over at him, "ready to go?"

"Ready when you are," he responded, offering her a smile.
