It was only a couple of days before Christmas and Chloe was packing a bag to take to Smallville, she hadn't heard from Oliver since the weekend, when he had left to go back to Star City.

So when she heard the elevator and went to look at the security camera just to see Oliver himself was in the elevator, she was surprised. She had been expecting him to avoid her and Christmas altogether.

Oliver stepped off the elevator a moment later, carrying a medium sized, flat box covered in silver paper, and a smaller box, also wrapped in silver paper, both boxes donning green bows. Naturally.

He smiled at her. "Hey, Sidekick."

"Hey," she cocked her head, looking at him, not at all bothered by the fact that she was standing there, in her PJs, he had seen a lot more than that anyway.

"I didn't know you were coming."

"It was sort of spur-of-the-moment," he admitted with a slight shrug. "I was going to have them sent over, but I figured I'd just come myself." He indicated the gifts in his hands.

Chloe raised her eyebrows and looked down at the gifts, "I haven't wrapped yours yet." She admitted.

"Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything anyway," he told her.

Rolling her eyes, she gave him a look, "like I wouldn't buy you something for Christmas."

He shrugged a little. "You heading to Smallville, I assume?"

With a shrug and a nod she watched him for a moment, "and since you're in town, you should come with me."

He shook his head. "Thanks for the invite, but..."

She made a face and gave him a look, "but what? I'm not driving to Smallville until the 24th, it's just one night and we have a spare bedroom anyway, Lois won't be there, she and the General are probably halfway to Europe by now, they are going to visit Lucy, and you don't have a place to go and you're not spending Christmas by yourself so you're coming with me."

He arched an eyebrow at her tirade. "When did you get to be so bossy, Watchtower?"

She smirked and cocked her head, "when I started hanging out with you, Arrow. Besides, you're being bullheaded."

He gave her a look. "I'm not being--" He drew in a breath and shook his head before holding out the gifts toward her. "Here."

Chloe stepped closer to him and took the gift, smirking, "thanks, does that mean you're coming? Because honestly, I expected you to completely blow me off and hide until after Christmas was over with but since you're here, you kinda don't have a way out." And she might have had too much coffee again, but it was his own damn fault for keeping the good stuff around the apartment and telling her to have as much as she'd like.

He sighed a little, slightly exasperated. "Chloe, have I ever blown you off? Really?" He gave her a look and shook his head a little. "I'm not invading the Smallville family Christmas get-together. I just came to see you." He knew she must have had a great deal of coffee already, because she didn't normally talk quite that fast.

Chloe rolled her eyes again and shook her head, "you won't be invading, Mrs. Kent always invites half of Smallville over to the farm anyway, and I already asked her if she would mind me inviting you, besides, if you came because of me, you should go, consider it part of my present." She was running out of options, but really she would like to have him there, mostly because she knew he'd be miserable and alone somewhere otherwise.

"Chloe, don't you think people will start to wonder why you're always inviting me for holiday celebrations?" he asked, shaking his head a little.

"You're my friend Oliver, I would have done the same with Clark, Pete or any of the guys," she said honestly, setting the gifts down on the coffee table then turning to look at him again.

A flicker of some unidentified emotion passed over his face, but it was gone as quickly as it appeared. "Right," he murmured. "Maybe you should call the guys."

Chloe frowned, raising her eyebrows slightly as she tried to read his face but being completely unable to and not at all happy with that, "what for?"

He shrugged a little. "I don't know what any of them are doing for Christmas, either."

She kept her eyes on him, "well I do, and they already have plans," because unlike Oliver, the other three did have family to spend the holidays with.

"Oh." He fell silent for a moment, then glanced at the gifts she'd placed on the table. "You gonna open those?"

Chloe considered for a second then nodded, "let me go get yours." She told him before turning around and walking down the hall, towards her bedroom, taking a deep breath as she did. She really didn't want Oliver spending Christmas on his own, but she didn't know how else to talk him into going.

Oliver drew in a breath and let it out slowly as she headed away. He moved over and sat down on the sofa for a moment, staring blankly at the floor. He hated Christmas. Hated it with a passion.

The last time he'd celebrated it, he'd been four. He had very spotty memories of unwrapping a firetruck, and a play archery set. Memories of warm cinnamon buns fresh from the oven--made from scratch by Lenora.

Of being swept up into his mom's arms in a warm, loving embrace and of being happy.

The next year, he'd asked Santa to bring his parents back. Needless to say, when they weren't anywhere to be seen that Christmas morning, he'd given up caring about Christmas and stopped believing in Santa Claus.
