"I know." He paused and carefully turned her so they were facing each other. "But this isn't just about whether or not we're having a baby, Chloe." His voice was soft as he gazed at her. "I love you." He offered her a small smile. "I have for a long time. And you're the only person in the world that I could imagine spending the rest of my life with." He lifted his hands to her arms and rubbed them gently.
"If you think about it, we're practically married already. It would just be formal. And if--and I'm not saying it will--but if something were to happen to me, I want to make sure you're the one who gets everything from my estate." The thought of something happening to him and her being left with nothing, being alone and fighting the bad guys like she had been before she'd found him that night so many months ago, didn't sit well with him. And while he'd already updated his will just in case, he wanted it airtight. If they got married, that would solidify that.
And the thought of the two of them being permanently connected, forever, was something he'd made peace with long ago.
