Advice with dp_lois.

Chloe hadn't made the drive to Smallville in a very long time, she had no reason to, not when everyone was usually in Metropolis anyway and her cousin worked less than two blocks away from where she lived, but today, she was driving down the familiar road south of the city once more.

She had asked Lois if she could come over so they could talk, sure, they could have just talked at the Watchtower but Chloe didn't want to chance being overheard by anyone, especially Ollie.

It was a little after ten when she got to the Talon and after getting coffee for her cousin, juice for herself and a couple of muffins, she made her way up the stairs, not bothering with knocking since she had texted her cousin a little while earlier letting her know she was close, mostly to make sure Lois was actually awake.

"Lo?" Chloe called as she pushed the door open while balancing the tray with their beverages on one hand and the bag with the muffins clutched in the other.

"There you are." Lois flashed her a bright smile and moved to relieve her of the muffin bag and the tray of drinks.

Chloe smiled, "thanks," she told her, closing the door behind herself, "yeah, took me longer to get here than I thought, parts of the road were icy."

Lois grimaced at that. "Stupid winter," she complained. "How did you manage to duck out of Ollie's over-protectiveness?"

"He went into work, I told him I was meeting with you for breakfast but I didn't tell him where breakfast was?" Chloe told her, pursing her lips.

She smirked at that. "I'm impressed. Sneaky."

"I can still manage it," she smirked.

"Obviously." She winked and took a long drink of the coffee, sighing happily. "So what's up? You sounded kinda rattled on the phone last night."

"Well," Chloe took a deep breath and picked up her juice then sat on the couch, "it's about Ollie's Christmas present," she admitted quietly.

"Oh. What'd you decide on?" she asked curiously, opening the bag of muffins and taking a bite out of one of them, handing the other to her cousin.

She took the muffin then looked down at it for a moment before looking at Lois again, "I was actually considering the thing you suggested when we went shopping with Mia, but I have no idea how to do this."

Her eyes widened a little at that and she quickly chewed and swallowed. "Really? You're thinking of proposing to him?"

Chloe held her breath and nodded, "when I asked him if he thought we should get married, he pretty much jumped on it, but he said he could wait until I was ready and while I'm not really looking forward to doing the whole wedding thing again, I do want to be married to him."

"Well, it doesn't have to be a big thing," Lois pointed out, leaning forward. "I mean, just you two and me and Mia and Mike." She cocked her head to the side. "Or the entire league. You know. Whatever works."

"Yeah, I know and either way, first I need to let him know I want to marry him and that's the point, right?" Chloe placed her juice and muffin on the coffee table, "I mean, with the baby and everything, it will just make everything easier, especially if something happens to one of us, and besides, I'm pretty sure we both agree that this is it for us so there really isn't a reason not to." She pointed out.

Lois was silent for a moment, studying her. "You don't think it'll weird him out, do you? You proposing to him instead of the other way around?"

"I don't think so," she told her, "I mean, he said he was waiting for me, right?" And then she paused and frowned, "do you think it will?"

"I don't know. I mean, Ollie's a pretty progressive type guy, right? He'll probably just be surprised." She shrugged.

"Yeah," Chloe breathed, nodding, "he is, I think he will be okay with it, besides, I'm not planning on doing it in front of anyone else. It will mostly be me telling him I'm ready for it."

"So no ring?" she teased, grinning brightly.

"Even though I think he could rock the diamond ring, I don't think so." Chloe said, giving her a look.

Lois chuckled at her expression, clearly amused. "Well, you have to give him something for it. To symbolize it."

"I know," Chloe agreed quietly, "I'm not sure what would be a good way to symbolize it though, I mean, it has to be something he can wear all the time, right?"

Lois nodded, looking thoughtful. "Hm."

"I thought of a necklace, but he doesn't wear those, he doesn't really wear any kind of jewelry, and I thought of cufflinks, but he can only wear those to work." She told Lois quietly, finally reaching for her muffin and taking a bite of it.

Lois took a bite of her muffing, as well, chewing thoughtfully. "What about a watch?" she asked, a couple crumbs falling out of her mouth as she spoke around the food.

She cocked her head at the suggestion and stared at Lois for a moment, "huh," she said, thinking about it, "I guess that would work, I can get it engraved with our initials and the date like you would a ring."

Lois nodded and took a drink of coffee. "Exactly! And he can wear it at either of his jobs, so..."

"You're right," she agreed, smiling softly, "I think a watch will be perfect."

She beamed. "Glad I can help."

"You always do," Chloe assured her, feeling a little more confident about the whole thing, "I'm thinking of giving it to him Christmas morning, before seeing anyone else."

Lois nodded at that. "Yeah, that's a good idea. Then he can show the watch off to everyone."

Chloe grinned at that and nodded then shrugged, "I'm okay if he doesn't want to tell anyone I asked him, I don't want him to feel... emasculated or something, assuming Ollie can actually feel that way." She smirked and picked up her drink again.

"Yeah, with his ego, probably not." She paused, smirking. "It'll probably inflate it more, actually."

"I don't know, Lo," Chloe said, shaking her head, "I think after the whole kid thing, nothing else will be big enough to inflate it."
