It was a little after ten when her computer informed her of an incoming call. She frowned a little and held her breath as she adjusted on her chair, the caller ID was telling her the caller was 'Emerald Archer' and although she knew they had planned a conference call, she was sure it had been canceled after the way their disastrous lunch ended.

With a deep breath, she nodded a little to herself and ran her fingers through her hair before accepting the call. She couldn't ignore work if he needed her and she had the feeling he wouldn't be calling unless it was extremely necessary.

"Like I said, I don't know how to fix it." She pursed her lips together, "but I don't want things to stay like this either."

He was silent for a moment, looking even more weary than before. "I don't think I'm going to be coming to Kansas anytime soon." His voice was very quiet.

That message was clear enough for her, so Chloe nodded a little, making her expression as blank as possible. "I'll let you go. I'll send you information as soon as I have it."

"I'm sorry. That I wasn't a better friend to you. That I couldn't..." He shook his head a little, feeling sick. "Take care, Chloe." He reached for the button to end the teleconference, this time not hesitating.

"Oli-" She started, shaking her head but then heard the noise letting her know the call had been disconnected. She stared blankly at the computer for a long moment, holding the puppy to her.

He was shutting her out, he was done getting hurt, she knew it was only a matter of time before he got tired of her, she just wished she'd been speaking the truth when she said she didn't want them to be anything other than friends with benefits, but it was too late now and she knew he was better off without her, which was why she had to resign and free him from her completely.
